Save Your Vision Month is the AOA annual campaign to remind Americans about the importance of good vision and healthy eyes. The first week of the month is annnually designated by the president of the United States as Save Your Vision Week.
Mar. 1 National Nutrition Month
This nutrition education and information campaign, sponsored annually by the American Dietetic Association, focuses attention on the importance of making informed food choices and developing sound eating and physical activity habits. The theme for 2011 is "Eat Right with Color".

Apr. 1 Women's Eye Health and Safety Month

Women often manage family health concerns. However, they may, in some cases, overlook thier own health needs. Many may not understand how factors such as hormonal changes, age, or smoking can affect visions.

May. 1 Healthy Vision Month

Healthy Vision Month was developed by the National Eye Institute (NEI) to elevate vision as a  national health priority.

May. 1 National Allergy and Asthma Awareness Month.

Sponsored annually by the Allergy Council of America, this observance can provide an opportunity to increase public awarness regarding the effects of allergies on the eye as well as available treatments.

May. 1 National Physical Fitness and Sports Month.
Sponsored by the President's Council on Physical Fitness and Sports, this observance is intended to promote the benefits of physical activity.
May. 1 National Stroke Awareness Month
The National Stroke Association is hoping to promote greater awareness of the symptoms of stroke as well as encourage immediate action to assist stroke victims, including ocular manifestations.
May. 1 Older Americans Month.

Sponsored each year under a presidential proclamation by the Federal Administration on Aging (AoA), Older Americans Month is observed by the administrations's National Aging Services Network of state, Native American tribal, and area (regional) agencies on aging as well as numerous community organizations that serve older adults.

May. 1 National Sight-Saving Month
Prevent Blindness America (PBA) notes that exposure to ultraviolet rays can burn delicate eye tissure and increase the risk of development of cataracts and cancer of the eye.

Aug. 1 Children's Eye and Safety Month
Prevent Blindness America (PBA) will disseminate information about amblyopia (a condition that can affect 2% - 3% of children) as well as tips on the prevention of eye injuries in children, signs of possible eye problems, and general eye health. www.preventblindness.org
Aug. 1 Children's Vision and Learning Month

The College of Optometrists in Vision Developement (COVD) sponsors this observance to educate the public on the steps that can be taken to ensure children do not sturggle with reading and learning because of undiagnosed vision problems.

Aug. 1 Cataract Awareness Month
Cataract is the leading cause of blindness in the world. As the U.S. population ages, interest in this topic is likely to increse. Close to 20.5 million Americans age 40 and older already have cataracts, according to Cataract Awareness Month sponsor Prevent Blindness America (PBA). By age 80, more than half of all Americans will have cataracts.
